31st December Barcelona is a popular destination to celebrate New Years Eve or ´Old Night´ as they say in Castellano. With a tradition to eat grapes, for each second of the count down before Champagne to bring in the New Year. The plaza Catalunya usually hosts an event to celebrate the count down. While another favourite is the display of the dancing lights on the Torre Agbar which synchronizes with the countdown. 
When the clock reaches midnight, everyone eats 12 grapes, one for each chime, and a toast with Cava or Champagne. In Barcelona you can follow this tradition either at home, in a restaurant (most offer special dinner and programs for the night), or outdoors. Plaza Catalunya is always beautifully decorated with lights and offers a great show of fireworks which makes thousands of people gather there every New Year's Eve. The Torre Agbar offers a unique light show at 12 which can be seen from many places all over the city. After midnight the younger generation usually head to one of the many clubs for a "Cotillone de Nochevieja"- a New Year's Eve party. The clubs are always full so make sure you book your table or buy your ticket in time, it can get quite difficult to get in. Most places offer special packages for a set price that include entrance, free drinks and often even a gourmet dinner. The parties are not over untill the sun has risen and then it's time for another New Year's tradition, the typical winter breakfast, chocolate and pastries. Due to Barcelona's mild climate many head down to the beach to enjoy this with a fantastic view over the mediterranean sea. It is common tradition that people eat together at home to bring in the New Year as a family in Barcelona, while in the early hours of the New Year young people would then leave their homes and go to clubs and events in the city. 5th / 6th January
Epiphany is the big Christmas event here and is marked by the Kings' Parade. Melchior, Gaspar and Balthasar arrive aboard the Santa Eulàlia boat at the bottom of La Rambla before beginning a grand parade around town with a retinue of acrobats, circus clowns and child elfs. The route is published in the newspapers, but normally starts at the lower entrance of Ciutadella, running up C/Marquès de l'Argentera and Via Laietana. Later that night, children leave their shoes out on the balcony stuffed with hay for the kings' camels; in the morning, they're either full of presents or edible sugar coal depending on their behaviour the previous year.
